JACKY LEUNG
Foremost saxophone player Jacky Leung has earned widespread acclaim in the international music community for his exceptional musical talent and diverse performance style. He has won over 10 ten first & other prizes in various international music competitions in Germany, North America, Canada & Japan (Pop Music & Classical Music & Composition sessions). He was also the first saxophonist awarded a full scholarship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund (Local Studies) in 2015 - 2016.
Jacky was praised by different magazines & organizations for his versatile musical styles in performances. He was invited as a guest soloist and guest chamber group in many local & international events and radio broadcasts, including the World Saxophone Congress, Asian Saxophone Congress, Asian Saxophone Festival, Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy, Music China in Shanghai, Hong Kong Arts Festival and Radio Television Hong Kong etc.
In 2024, Jacky was invited to be the soloist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Yao Yueh Chinese Music Orchestra. In 2023, Jacky was also performed as the opening soloist in Mr. Hacken Lee’s pop concert. In July of the same year, his founding group, Lucky 6 brass brand was invited as the only instrument performing group in the ceremony of the 26th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR of the People’s Republic of China. Last but not least, Jacky has represented Hong Kong to perform in the Osaka International Music Competition Winner concert.
Jacky is passionate about music education, he conducted masterclasses and workshops in various international institutions and saxophone events. Jacky was invited as the guest lecturer for the "Lao Shan Art Lecture" in Qingdao Grand Theatre, which was later aired on the Qing Dao TV Dangjian Channel. Since 2017, Jacky was invited to host masterclasses & recitals at Thailand Mahidol University, Shantou University, Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre in Malaysia, China Annual Saxophone Congress, the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 Conference at the University of Minnesota. In 2023, he was invited as Hong Kong representative to join the Asian Saxophone Festival conducting masterclasses & performing solo in concert. He also became the core member of the 2024-2025 Asian Saxophone congress committee.
Adding to the above, Jacky has duo performances with many internationally renowned artists in past concerts, including Vincent David, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Philippe Geiss, Timothy Roberts, Kenny Tsai & Kenneth Tse etc.
Jacky has continuously worked on different composition and arrangement works asAs a Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Ltd. (CASH) member, Jacky has continuously worked on different composition and arrangement works. The concert "HIT East Meets West", aims to blend Eastern and Western musical cultures and promote cultural exchange through innovative interpretations, and has become one of Jacky’s key creative and performance projects starting in 2024. Additionally, Jacky is actively composing more saxophone pieces to promote local creative culture globally. He did a world premiere of two of his compositions, "FATE" with multi-media & "LOCUS II" with piano, at the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 conference, together with his arrangement of the famous Chinese repertoire "Tribe of Yao Dance 瑶 族 舞 曲 " into saxophone duo, which received high acclaim. He is also actively collaborating with local directors for micro movie music which also has received numerous prizes.
Lastly, Jacky serves as conductor and music director of different various orchestras and concert bands. Under his baton, the performances and competitions of the ensemble have received high recognition. In 2024, Jacky led the MYO Orchestra to Japan for a music and cultural exchange with local wind orchestras which, successfully promoting mutual understanding and appreciation of music and arts.
Jacky is currently the core member of the Asian Saxophone Congress committee, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong International Single Reed Association, faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, score advisor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, MYO Orchestra-lite principal conductor and first-call saxophonist of the two most representative orchestras in Hong Kong, namely the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Jacky is also the Yamaha & Vandoren artist.
